Dear Westborough Baptist Church,

I admire your ardor, but I don’t think you get it. I’ve been a Christian very small, so small that I don’t remember becoming one. But I know I am. I’m also a WASP (white Anglo-Saxon protestant), hetero-sexual, and I live in a middle-income family.  Overall, I’m a very typical girl. Lately I’ve been reading my Bible and I came to realize just how wrong you are! I always knew that picketing was no way to make people to come over to your way of thinking. But then I really began to read about the things that you’ve been doing. It is so hateful!

I have trouble understanding how a group of people who claim to be Christians can be so full of hate! For one thing, if you look at the Bible you’ll notice that it’s filled to the brim with messages of love. Even more so in the New Testament. E.G. John 3:16-17, the verse on which the whole Christian religion is based upon:

  • “This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. Anyone who trusts in him is aquitted, anyone who refuses to trust him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it.” (The Message, pg 1561)


Did you guys hear that? He came to save the WOLRD the loved the WORLD so much that He gave His only son to save the WORLD. He didn’t send Jesus to save the white people, African-Americans, hetero-sexuals, homo-sexuals, etc. He sent Jesus to save THE WORLD. That means all of us. All six-billion miserable sinners living on this little planet. So the idea that He would single out a group of people for utter hate and destruction is pure foolishness!

Would you like it if the people who you were picketing against came and protested against you and your behavior? The thing is, with God, all sin is equal. So you being hateful is just as bad as anything the people you’re protesting against are doing.

I guess the long and short of it is this: please stop. You’re not making any sort of point, you’re just inviting ridicule and misrepresenting my religion.
